LIPOSUCTION AND FAT TRANSFER

Liposuction Treatment

Liposuction is a surgical technique that utilises suction to remove fat from certain stubborn sites of the body and to contour these to achieve the desired body shape result. The procedure is carried out using a thin tube called a cannula that is inserted through tiny incisions in the skin. The cannula loosens the fat, after which a suction device is attached. This removes the fat from the body. The incisions in the skin are then stitched up. There are certain variations on this technique, and your surgeon will be able to advise and discuss your suitability for the specific procedures.

The procedure may be performed under a local or a general anesthetic, depending on the exact type of liposuction you opt for, and can last up to several hours. After the liposuction, you may have temporary drains in place to encourage the remaining fat to leave the body. Tight compression garments aid the reduction of swelling following the procedure and will need to be worn for a few weeks.

Recovery time following liposuction is fairly quick, though returning to work can take a couple of days, while returning to the gym and regular exercise can take a few weeks. In general, liposuction results are long lasting if combined with a healthy exercise regime and diet, and as long as the patient avoids rapid changes in weight.

Why Liposuction?

Liposuction is useful for getting rid of stubborn fat from parts of the body where the patient isn’t seeing a reduction despite changes in diet and exercise. Liposuction is especially great for treating areas such as the abdomen, upper arms, buttocks, calves and ankles, chest and back, hips and thighs, as well as the chin and neck. Liposuction can also be an effective breast reduction technique.

Liposuction Safety Information

Liposuction may not be suitable for everyone, as with all surgical procedures, and does carry some risks, including the possibility of contour irregularities or fluid accumulation.

Your surgeon will be able to discuss everything in detail with you prior to the procedure and will advise as to which liposuction technique is best suited to your needs.

OTHER TYPES OF LIPOSUCTION

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL)

Power assisted liposuction (PAL), uses a cannula that makes it easier for surgeons to use, enabling a more extensive and thorough fat removal.

PAL devices produce tiny vibrations that dislodge the fat so that it can easily be removed from the body.

This vibration ensures that the so called “tough “fat can be removed more easily. This type of fat is usually situated on the back and around the bra straps in women and generally in most of the body in men.

Body Jet

Body Jet Liposuction, also known as 'Water Liposuction' or 'Water-assisted liposuction,' is another option for those wanting to get rid of stubborn areas of fat on their bodies. Rather than using a more traditional suction technique, Body Jet Liposuction uses waves of saline fluid that lightly displace the fat cells. Because of the gentler process the harvested fat is undamaged which makes it ideal for placement in other parts of the body where it takes its own blood supply and can behave in the same way as far from that area, i.e. of the patient puts on weight it will expand and vice versa.

The Body Jet approach therefore is the preferred means of liposuction when fat transfer is required for example in the breast, buttocks (BBL), penis, face or back of hands, scars and other body imperfections.

Bodytite

Bodytite is a procedure that uses radio frequency to tighten the skin for those seeking to firm up areas of loose skin. It can be used on its own if there isn’t any excess fat in the area treated for example excess abdominal skin in women after pregnancy or in conjunction with different forms of fat removal in order to eliminate the risk of unsightly excess skin in the risk patient group. These are mostly older patients who have reduced skim elasticity or patients who are having larger amounts of fat removed.

Following the treatment, pressure garments will need to be worn, but you will be able to get back to work within a few days.

AccuTite

Introducing AccuTite, the smallest Radio-Frequency Assisted Lipolysis (RFAL) device for precision fat reduction or skin contraction in the face and body.

With its sub-millimeter cannula, AccuTite enables focal RF contraction without excisional surgery. There is little or no visible scarring and minimum downtime with AccuTite. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes under local anesthesia. Results can be seen immediately with continuing improvements for several weeks following treatment. These results are maintained for up to 12 months post-RFAL procedure.

FAT TRANSFER

Fat Transfer

A fat transfer procedure is used to move fat from areas of the body where you might have it in excess, to areas that may be lacking in volume, for example, fat can be moved from the outer thighs to the face, back of hands, breasts, buttocks (BBL) or penis.

This is a safe procedure that yields natural results for both men and women, and can be used to create desired shape or structure to certain areas of the body.

Why Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is a good option:

  • To correct facial areas that seem sunken and volume depleted
  • To create a longer lasting result when compared with using temporary fillers
  • To sculpt and contour the body as desired, reduce the appearance of scars, revitalise the hands and face, enlarge breast, buttocks and penis.
  • The fat used is from your own body, so the risk of adverse reactions is greatly reduced
  • The results are natural and long lasting, but often more than one session is required to achieve the desired result as usually 50% of the transferred fat is lost after each session.
